I offer both short and long-term counselling – the length of therapy depends on what you bring, and will be discussed during the initial assessment and reviewed at regular intervals.
I initially trained as a Person Centred Counsellor and my practice is still based on that approach – the belief that all human beings have within them the innate ability to develop towards their full-potential. Sometimes however, life experiences can block or distort the wisdom and inner resources that affect our sense of value. My role as counsellor is to help you reconnect with your inner values and sense of self-worth by establishing and maintaining a mutual relationship built on empathy, positive valuing, openness and honesty.
Over the last few years, my way of working has become more integrative. I have undertaken additional training in various therapeutic approaches, and although my practice is still very much Person Centred, I adapt my work to best suit the issues identified by my clients using elements from other therapies – e.g. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) and TA (Transactional Analysis).
